Frequently Asked Questions

1. Robotic Mowers vs Traditional Mowers
Automower® systems maintain the lawn continuously, trimming small amounts of grass regularly rather than cutting large amounts at once. This results in a healthier lawn, quieter operation, and no manual mowing required, while traditional mowing requires periodic cutting and disposal of clippings.
2. Wired vs Wire-Free (EPOS®) Systems
Wired systems use an underground boundary wire to define the mowing area and are ideal for properties with heavy tree coverage or limited satellite visibility.
Wire-free EPOS® systems use satellite positioning with a reference station to create virtual boundaries and mowing zones, allowing easy adjustments through the app without installing wire.
3. X-Line vs Standard Models
X-Line models are Husqvarna’s premium range and include features such as GPS navigation, advanced connectivity, theft tracking, and LED lighting.
Standard models provide reliable mowing performance but with fewer advanced navigation and connectivity features.
4. Why We Recommend Capacity Buffer
Automowers maintain the lawn continuously rather than catching up with long grass.
Selecting a mower with capacity headroom beyond the lawn size ensures the system can keep up during peak summer growth and heavy rainfall periods, improving long-term reliability and lawn quality.
5. Do You Do Demonstrations?
Robotic mowers require either boundary wire installation or a reference station setup to operate properly, so they cannot usually be demonstrated directly on-site without installing part of the system.
However, we can demonstrate a running mower at our location, and the consultation process allows us to assess your property and explain exactly how the system would work.
6. What Happens If I Want to Change the Layout Later?
Changes can be made depending on the system type.
With EPOS wire-free systems, boundaries and mowing zones can be adjusted easily through the app.
With wired systems, small adjustments can be made by modifying the boundary wire.
7. What About Theft Protection?
Automower systems include PIN code protection, alarms, and GPS tracking on supported models. If lifted or removed, the alarm activates and the mower cannot be used without the correct code.
Many of our clients also add the mower to their home insurance policy, as it is considered outdoor equipment similar to other garden machinery.
8. Does the Automower Work in All Weather?
Automower systems are designed to operate in rain and typical outdoor conditions. They are built for continuous outdoor use and will automatically return to charge when needed.
In extreme weather such as severe storms or flooding, it is recommended to pause operation until conditions improve.
9. How Long Do Automowers Typically Last?
Premium robotic mowers such as Husqvarna Automowers commonly operate 8–10 years or more with proper maintenance, with parts such as blades and batteries being replaceable during the lifespan.
Batteries are a service component and typically last around 2–5 years depending on usage, after which they can be replaced by your dealer.
10. What Maintenance Is Required?
Maintenance requirements are minimal.
Typically this involves:
• replacing blades periodically
• occasional cleaning of wheels and chassis
• annual servicing to maintain optimal performance
Blade replacement usually takes only a few minutes and is part of normal upkeep for best cutting results.
